SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS: THE TRUE MEANING OF A POPCORN FLICK
Sheng-Chi is escapism at its finest. Even though the story is fascinatingly familiar, it sucks you in immediately with its lore, complex villain, and endearingly likeable main characters. It’s as if art has come to life, thanks to the brilliant fight choreography, which compliments the dazzling cinematography. While it likely won’t achieve the impact that Black Panther had, it certainly packs a punch, leaves a lasting impression, and does the Asian community justice.

EMMY AWARDS 2021 PREDICTIONS
My favourite time of year is upon us. There are many things that I look forward to that indicate the arrival of autumn. First off, the pumpkin spiced latte returns to Starbucks, then, apple picking becomes the ideal weekend activity, the leaves change into gorgeous hues […]

THE SUICIDE SQUAD: GUARDIANS OF THE DCU
James Gunn properly utilizes the wonderful source material by making the second Suicide Squad a bloody funny and action packed thrill ride. Thanks to some well-realized anti-heroes, gorgeous comic-book style violence, and more heart than I was expecting, The Suicide Squad is one of the best films of 2021. The DCU should be thanking their fearless leader James Gunn, along with the rest of this gloriously perfect cast.

OLD: IT GETS OLD FAST
M. Night Shyamalan once again proves why he’s one of the most ambitious directors working. While Old features a brilliant story and some themes that will hit a lot of people close to home. Its cheesy dialogue, odd directing choices and lack of empathy for the cast prevents this film from achieving greatness. While certainly better than most of Shyamalan’s movies, it just didn’t do enough to warrant a recommendation.

FAST AND FURIOUS 9: FAMILY, CORONA, AND THE MOST OUT OF THIS WORLD ACTION
Despite it falling short in comparison to the long running series’ earlier efforts, Fast and Furious 9 still manages to be an excellent summer blockbuster that you should race back to the theatre to see. The stunts remain both ridiculous and uproarious, plus the cast’s comfortable chemistry and undeniable charm is enough to keep you hooked and dying for the next one to come out sooner.

CRUELLA: A STYLISHLY PLEASANT SURPRISE
Cruella manages to distinguish itself from the rest of Disney’s live-action adaptations thanks to stylish direction, jaw-dropping costume design, Oscar calibur acting from its leading ladies and a script that achieves success in transforming its well-known evil antagonist into an anti-hero you admire. Cruella is a […]

MARE OF EASTTOWN: HELLO DARKNESS, MY OLD FRIEND
HBO’s latest crime thriller hooks you from the minute you first lay your eyes on Kate Winslet and never lets go. She is a tour de force in the lead role and demonstrates why she is one of the best actresses working. Though it’s a mystery we have seen many times before, Mare of Easttown separates itself from the pack with sensational writing by giving us unique, memorable characters and overarching themes that hit almost too close to home.

SHADOW AND BONE: X-MEN: THE LAST AIRBENDER
Shadow and Bone manages to transcend familiarity thanks to some stellar performances from a cast of relatively unknown actors. The remarkable special effects transport you into this fascinating world that blends. Though the lore presented is incredibly intriguing, I wish they would’ve dived a little deeper into it.

THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW: SO MUCH WASTED POTENTIAL
If you are looking for a prime example of how to ruin some excellent source material, look no further than The Woman in the Window. This film struggles to achieve any genuine thrills and chills, it fails to live up to its stellar cast and it pales in comparison to the many movies it pays tribute to. A spectacularly disappointing feature that I will have a hard time remembering…

THE MITCHELLS VS. THE MACHINES: A DYSFUNCTIONALLY WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE
Relatable for anyone of any age, hilarious all the way through, and heartfelt like so many of your favourite animated movies. The Mitchells vs The Machines is that wonderful dose of escapism that we all crave that doesn’t talk down to its audience and wears its themes and heart on its sleeve.

STOWAWAY: A WATERED DOWN VERSION OF BETTER FILMS THAT TAKE PLACE IN SPACE
Stowaway offers a chilly atmosphere, sensational production value and some excellent performances. However, it fails to live up to its truly heartbreaking philosophical questions by downplaying what should be an edge of your seat series of events and some tough decisions made by the main characters.

BEST MOVIES TO WATCH WITH YOUR MOM ON MOTHER’S DAY
This Sunday, we are celebrating someone very special in a lot of our lives. Our moms get their own special day, but let’s face it, everyday should be mother’s day. We have to face the impossible mission of making sure our moms take a break and let us take care of them for once. This is always a difficult task for our moms, but every year, we manage to somehow pull it off and they get the break they truly deserve.

TOM CLANCY’S WITHOUT REMORSE: I WISH I COULD SAY THE SAME AFTER I FINISHED THE MOVIE
Amazon’s latest Tom Clancy adaptation offers nothing new and exciting to the revenge tale. Even Michael B Jordan’s committed performance can’t save us from lackluster action and an underwhelming story that hits every familiar beat. We’ve seen it all before and sadly, Without Remorse isn’t as clever as it thinks it is.

FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER: TO BE CAP OR NOT TO BE CAP, THAT IS THE QUESTION
Unlike Wandavision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier chooses the more familiar action/political tone that we got accustomed to in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and does it justice. Top notch action and fantastic chemistry between its leading men Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan makes Falcon and the Winter Soldier escapism in its finest form.

MY 2021 ACADEMY AWARDS PREDICTIONS
My favourite awards show is finally here. This has been the strangest awards season by far. Not seeing the best picture nominees in theatres made me really sad. However, just like the film industry, I adapted and found the silver lining. There is nothing quite like watching an award show where who is expected to win, doesn’t win at all, and somebody else is blindsided in the best possible way. These are my exact feelings going into this year’s Academy Awards ceremony.

PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN: UNFORGETTABLE IN THE BEST AND WORST WAY
Writer/director Emerald Fennell immediately makes you uncomfortable in the most sensational way, as she presents us with a revenge tale unlike it’s ever been told before. Carey Mulligan gives us a darkly provocative and layered performance making her worthy of the top prize at the Academy Awards. Balancing entertaining with enlightening, Promising Young Woman is a film that’s executed brilliantly.

HOW ENTERTAINMENT BECAME MY BIGGEST PASSION
My first experience inside of a movie theatre happened at the ripe age of 3 when my father decided to take me to see The Lion King in the summer of 1994. I don’t know what my dad was thinking about taking a 3 year old to a movie theatre…

I CARE A LOT: I WISH I CARED A LOT FOR THE CHARACTERS
Featuring some fabulous performances from Rosamund Pike and Peter Dinklage, I Care A Lot manages to become the equivalent of watching a car crash happen in front of you. It’s absolutely horrific to witness, yet, no matter how hard you try, you just cannot look away.

RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON : NOTHING LIKE HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON
Once again, Disney proves why they are leagues ahead of everyone when it comes to their films. Featuring breathtaking visuals, stellar voice-acting and a message that will resonate with both children and adults about the power of kindness and coming together.

THE 2021 OSCAR NOMINATIONS ARE HERE !
Awards season continues to shock and surprise us with this years Oscar nominations.

SOUND OF METAL REVIEW : SILENCE HAS NEVER FELT SO LOUD
With its clever use of sound to give us a sensational visceral experience and Riz Ahmed’s tour de force performance, Sound of Metal heightened my empathy for the deaf community, while leaving me in awe simultaneously. This is a film that will stay with me for a long time.

WHY I STARTED THIS BLOG
I want to take a moment to properly introduce myself. My name is Alex DiMeglio and my ultimate passion in life is entertainment, especially movies and tv shows, which have been lifesavers for me during this absolutely horrifying health crisis.

MY GOLDEN GLOBES PREDICTIONS
The Golden Globes have proven to be a prime example of coming up with nominations out of left field and usually snubbing a lot of nominees that many feel deserved a spot. As a result, this makes the Golden Globes really hard to predict, which is why I thought it would be fun to try and predict the winners.
