Welcome to Chill and Watch,

I want to take a moment to properly introduce myself. My name is Alex DiMeglio and my ultimate passion in life is entertainment, especially movies and tv shows, which have been lifesavers for me during this absolutely horrifying health crisis.

Chill and Watch was a long time coming because over the years, I collected an eclectic group of friends who share the same passion for film as I do. The vast majority of our friendship found us meeting up at the movie theatre in proximity to the houses that we grew up in, watching the film and the moment we left the theatre, we would suddenly dive deep into the rabbit hole that involved analyzing the film and then just going on a full on tangent talking about movies for hours. We once spent a full 10 hours together only discussing films and somehow, at the dreary hour of 4am, despite being quite tired, we still had a lot more to say.

The pandemic has me missing those conversations, which I hold dear in my heart, and not being able to go to the cinema to watch the latest films has been rough on me in so many ways. This is currently the time of year where we are rushing off to see every film that will be nominated for best picture at the Oscars and Golden Globes. We do this to feel like we are a part of the conversation about which films deserve to be rewarded for their hard work. I want Chill and Watch to serve as a window into my soul because movies, television, and entertainment in general are not just a great way to pass the time.

Entertainment brings people together

One of the things that I love the most about entertainment is that it brings people of every background together. I see the entertainment industry like that. Watching a film in a cinema with a group of strangers is unlike anything else to me. Before the movie, we all led our own separate lives and had no reason to communicate with each other. During this moment, we are all experiencing unique emotions from the same movie, and after it ends, we either collectively give the film a round of applause for entertaining us, or we express our disdain for what we just watched.

Talking about entertainment is an ice-breaker

Entertainment is another form of non-verbal communication to help you develop a connection on a much deeper level. Consider the films and television shows that have been released on top streaming platforms Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+. The same original titles from each service plays in every country that they operate in. While I was living in Paris, one thing that was an excellent ice-breaker for me was mentioning some incredible movies and tv shows I had viewed recently.

I am someone who has battled a lot of mental health issues over the years, Whenever life got really hectic for me and I felt like I couldn’t handle something, I would escape to the cinema and the movie would allow my mind to experience some escapism and take a break from the stressors that consume my life.

I want to thank you for taking the time to embrace the subjects that I am the most passionate about. Sharing my thoughts and insights is something I absolutely love doing and I hope to hear back from every one of you who reads the Chill and Watch blog.
